Three basic types of bets in American Football are Moneyline, Point Spread and Total Points O/U.
Money Line
Example
Denver Broncos: 4.25
San Diego Chargers: 1.23
In this example, a $100 bet on Denver Broncos will win $325. While a $100 bet on San Diego Chargers will win $23. Any period of overtime is included in the final result to determine winning team, unless specified otherwise.
Point Spread
Example
Denver Broncos +9: 1.91
San Diego Chargers -9: 1.96
In this example, if San Diego Chargers win by 10 points or more, a bet of $100 wins $96. If Denver Broncos win the game, or lose by only 8 points, a bet of $100 will win $91. If San Diego Chargers win by 9 points, bets on San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos will be refunded, unless specified otherwise.
Total Points O/U
Example
Over 47: 1.92
Under 47: 1.97
A game total points bet is whether the combined total scores for both teams will either be over or under a predetermined number at the end of the game. Overtime is included in the final result to determine the total score, unless specified otherwise. In this example, if the combined score equals 47 at the end of the game, the bet is considered No Action or Push and the original bet will be returned.
