Betting on Basketball 101

There are 3 basic betting types in basketball. These types of bets are Moneyline, Point Spread and Total Points O/U.

Money Line

Example
Portland Trail Blazers: 4.25
Denver Nuggets: 1.23

In this example, Denver Nuggets are the favorite while Portland Trail Blazers are the underdog. A $100 bet on Denver Nuggets will win $23. While a $100 bet on Portland Trail Blazers will win $325.

Any period of overtime is included in the final result to determine the winning team, unless specified otherwise.

Pont Spread

Example
Minnesota Timberwolves +9: 1.95
Miami Heat -9: 1.95

A Point Spread bet is a wager on a team to win the game with handicaps applied. In this example, if Miami Heat win by 10 points or more, a bet of $100.00 wins $95. If Minnesota Timberwolves win the game, or lose by only 8 points, a bet of $100.00 will win $95. If Miami Heat win by 9 points, bets on Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves will be refunded, unless specified otherwise.

Total Points O/U

Example
Over 205: 1.86
Under 205: 1.97

A game total points bet is whether the combined total scores for both teams will either be over or under a predetermined number at the end of the game. Overtime is included in the final result to determine the total score, unless specified otherwise. In this example, if the combined score equals 205 at the end of the game, the bet is considered No Action or Push and the original bet will be refunded.
